Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, directed by WARM members Ramita Navai and Karim Shah, with cinematographer Jaber Badwan, has won the 2025 Rory Peck “Sony Impact Award.” The film was produced by Basement Films, a long-standing partner and close friend of WARM.
The documentary was screened at the WARM Festival 2025 in Sarajevo, followed by a strong and highly engaged discussion with the authors and producers. The film is now available to watch on the Zeteo platform.
Produced by the award-winning Basement Films team that also created last year’s Israel’s Reel Extremism, the documentary includes the final on-camera testimony of Dr. Adnan al-Bursh, arrested by the Israeli military in December 2023 and, according to a UN report, “subjected to sexual violence in an Israeli prison prior to his death in Israeli custody.” The film also features accounts from an anonymous Israeli doctor who worked at the Sde Teiman detention facility, describing the torture of Palestinian detainees and implicating Israeli medical staff in the abuse.
The film was originally commissioned by the BBC, which later chose not to broadcast it, stating that airing the investigation “risked creating a perception of partiality.” In response, Basement Films publicly noted that “the truth must be told,” calling the decision “a damning indictment that it is not possible under the national broadcaster’s current leadership.”
WARM is proud of its long partnership with Basement Films and of the continued work of Navai, Shah, and Badwan, whose reporting reflects the values and mission of WARM – to document conflict with accuracy, depth, and integrity.
Congratulations to the entire team on this important recognition.
