In the entire history of many modern countries, freedom has never been as limited as it has been during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the majority of citizens accept the legitimacy of these restrictions, the pandemic poses a significant threat to the freedom of individuals and the press. In addition to being exploited for political purposes, the fear of the pandemic could have a long-term impact on fundamental freedoms, both in authoritarian regimes and in major democracies.
