Francesca Albanese: When the World Sleeps

Closing Keynote: Francesca Albanese — Stories, Struggles, and the Spirit of Palestine
Saturday, July 12 – 9PM,  Park outside the European House of Culture and National Minorities

Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, will deliver the closing keynote of the WARM Festival 2025.

Admired and challenged across the world for her integrity, clarity, and tireless defense of human rights, Albanese has become one of the most prominent voices speaking about Palestine today. Her keynote in Sarajevo will draw on her latest book, Quando il mondo dorme (“When the World Sleeps”), a profound and urgent reflection on life under occupation, told through the voices of those living it.

In the book, which will also be presented during the festival, Albanese shares ten deeply personal encounters that helped shape her understanding of Palestine’s past and present. From Hind Rajab, a six-year-old killed for the “crime” of being Palestinian, to doctors, scholars, artists, friends, and refugees, these stories bear witness to loss, resistance, and the ongoing struggle for justice.

This keynote is part of Francesca Albanese’s visit to WARM and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the week marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, a moment of remembrance, reflection, and renewed commitment to truth and accountability.

The event will close the WARM Festival 2025 in the same spirit in which it began, with real stories, difficult questions, and voices that must be heard.

Free and open to the public.
