Photographer

I am an independent reportage photographer currently living in Budapest, Hungary. I have studied photography at l’ Ecole Supérieure des Arts de l’Image (“Le 75”) in Brussels between 1990 and1993, and have afterwards graduated in Development and Humanitarian Aid at L’Institut Bioforce in Lyon, France. I started with my first documentary reportages during several extended stays between 1990 and 1993 in Romania and the Middle East, capturing the aftermath of the Romanian Revolution and the situation in the Palestinian Territories during the first uprising before the Oslo peace agreements. In 1994, I started working with aid agencies in Bosnia and took a step away from photography. Having spent engaging twenty years working in humanitarian emergency and development in Afghanistan, Africa and 16 years in Bosnia, with Médecins Sans Frontières and later the European Union. Following a few years of reflexion and preparation, I have left the ordinary offices in early 2013 to devote my professional career again fully to photography. I am trying to keep my photographic work close to people, their destinies affected by their environment and the social issues touching them, hence my reportages portray peculiarities of an often deprived civil society affected by latent or bygone conflict. I have since been working on several projects such as Frozen Conflicts in the Caucasus (Nagorno-Karabakh, Georgia and Abkhazia) and Transnistria following the itinerary of ordinary people whose life is in limbo for the past 20 years due to isolation and a standstill of society following the conflicts of the nineties. My work Palestinian Chronicles is a continuation in line with the series taken between 1992 and 1993, with focus on the daily realities of the numerous refugee camps’ population and the difficult co-existential relations among the inhabitants of Palestine and Israel. Most currently, I am working on subjects depicting hard labour and seasonal migration flows in the overpopulated Bengal bay, focusing also on the correlation of these factors with the environment. Presently I am documenting statelessness of Bihari and Rohingya in Bangladesh, Myanmar and India which I plane to finish beginning 2016. My work has recently been exhibited in Sarajevo (Module Memorija 2015), Ljubljana and Budapest (Verzio 2015, Human Rights Documentary Film Festival).
