Fabrice Dekoninck

Photographer

I am a French documentary photographer living in Brussels. My work questions  conflict memory, its transmission and its impact on society. Capturing remains of the past and understanding their relation to the present drives my photographic work. As such, history and memory are essential in my approach to documenting the present. From 2012 to 2017, I developed a photography project addressing the subject of the memory of the Great War through meetings with the inhabitants of a small village destroyed during the war. This project was labeled by the French “Mission du Centenaire” and exhibited at Verdun Memorial in 2017. At the end of 2019, I undertook a photography work about the memory of the war and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project, entitled “Between fears and hope”, is the result of documentary work that aggregates sociological, political and historical information, in a long-term social and documentary approach.
