Janine Di Giovanni is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a contributing editor at Vanity Fair. She has reported virtually every violent conflict since the first Palestinian Intidada, and later, Bosnia, Rwanda, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Ivory Coast, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and many others. The author of five books, she has won many awards, including two Amnesty International awards; the national magazine award; Britain’s foreign correspondent of the year and spear’s non-fiction book of the year. She is a former president of the Prix Bayeux for war reporters and is currently writing a book about Syria for WW Norton. She is also writing another book for the Magnum Foundation on the photojournalist Eve Arnold. She has lectured on human rights abuse at Sciences Po, Paris; Harvard: Princeton; the Council on Foreign Relations; the United Nations General Assembly; the New American Foundation and many others. She has made two long format documentaries on human rights for the BBC and frequently appears on television as a foreign policy analyst. She has been the subject of two documentaries about women war reporters. She writes a weekly column on international affairs for Newsweek and is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, The Guardian, Granta and many others. Her work is widely anthologised. A British, French and American national of Italian origin, she lives in Paris with her son, Luca Girodon.
