Laurent Van der Stockt was born in Belgium in 1964. He became a full time freelance photo-reporter in 1982. He has been a staff member of the French agency Gamma from 1990 to 2005. His work is now syndicated by Getty Reportage agency. Van der Stockt has covered the Gulf War, the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Africa, Israel, Iraq and Syria. His work has been published in The New York Times, Newsweek, Stern, Le Monde, The Independent, Paris Match, and many others medias. He has received, among other prizes, the Columbia University School of Journalism Award, the Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents, and the Paris Match Prize.
