Selma Spahić

Theater Director - MESS

Selma Spahić was born in 1986. She graduated Directing from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. She has directed plays, devised theater pieces and led workshops in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and the UK. Amongst others, her performances include: “Spring Awakening”, “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “The Lonesome West”, “Doubt”, “Hypermnesia” and “The Secret of Raspberry Jam”, based on the stories of Karim Zaimović, which was supported by WARM. Her performances have been critically acclaimed for both their esthetic value and social engagement. They were awarded on international festivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and have participated in some of the most renowned European festivals such as Neue Theater Stücke aus Europa in Wiesbaden, Germany. She has been the programmer of Future MESS, a part of the International Theater Festival MESS devoted to young theater makers since 2010. Since February 2012 she is also the Artistic Director of International Theater Festival MESS.
