Born in 1986, an MA in Contemporary History, l’ve started working as a journalist for the newspaper La Repubblica at 20 years old. After a couple of years l’ve decided to start my career as a freelance working both on writing and photography. Actually I work for several newspapers and magazines such as La Stampa, Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Vanity Fair, East, focusing my work on human rights, contemporary conflicts and social issues. l’ve followed the 2012 coup d’etat in Guiné Bissau where l’ve realized also a couple of reportage on the prisonal system and on female genital mutilation, l’ve reported from Tunisia – on the post Arab Spring situation and on the LGBT community, Europe and North America. In parallel I like to work on longer and in deep project, using both words and photography, and currently l’m pursuing a project on the Italian Transgender community. I was shortlisted in 2013 at Prix Bayeux-Calvados for the “Young reporter award” and I was granted the Helge Hummelvoll Scholarship for the 65th edition of the Missouri Photojournalism Workshop. www.tomasoclavarino.com
