Fotografija snimljena u Tunisu, u maju 2013. u sklopu projekta “Čitam, pišem” o arapskim ženama i obrazovanju, prikazuje Shams (lijevo), koja studira englesku književnost i pobijedila je na izborima za Studentski savez na svom univerzitetu.

Shams voli sjediti sa svojim kolegama na njihovom omiljenom mjestu, ispod grafita s likom pokojnog libanskog komunističkog mislioca Hassana Hamdana, poznatijeg kao Mahdi Amel, koji je ubijen 80-ih. Shams kaže da su islamistički studenti redovito prebojavali Amelove slogane.

Shams ikes to sit with her classmates at their favorite spot, under the graffiti of an image of late Lebanese communist thinker Hassan Hamdan, aka Mahdi Amel, who was assassinated in the 80s. Shams says that Amel’s slogans were regularly painted over by Islamist students.
