IRAN 2026: A Chronicle
Collective exhibition on recent events in Iran featuring works from multiple photographers, texts, music and images from the Thomas Dworzak Collection, edited by Alice Gabriner.
The exhibition remains open until July 20.
Venue: National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina
IRAN 2026: A Chronicle is an attempt to document a pivotal year through multiple forms. Rather than telling a single story, the exhibition assembles fragments, perspectives, and voices into a chronicle of history as it unfolds.
The exhibition is built in several parts. At its centre is a collective visual report from Iran today, bringing together images by six photographers working inside the country with short contextual texts. The works are deliberately interwoven, creating a shared chronicle rather than six separate narratives.
Alongside this more conventional documentary work, the exhibition includes an ancient Shahr-e Farang, a traditional Iranian peep-show box. Inside it, a sequence of recent Iran-related images unfolds, edited by Alice Gabriner from Thomas Dworzak’s collection of visual material harvested from the internet. Once used to reveal distant and otherwise inaccessible worlds, the Shahr-e Farang here presents a selection of images created exclusively for this intimate viewing experience.
A further layer of the exhibition is a text by a contributor who chose to remain unnamed, based on a recent talk given to a private group of friends in London. Presented in its original form and designed by Bojan Hadžihalilović, the text is an integral part of the exhibition.
The exhibition’s soundscape is composed of songs that acquired new forms, meanings, or emotional weight in 2026, accompanied by brief explanations that provide context for their significance.
Together, these elements form not a definitive explanation of Iran, but a living chronicle: a collection of images, voices, fragments, and echoes from a year still unfolding.
