Kurt Schork
Sierra Leone, 2000
Dimensions: 145 mm x 210 mm
This is the notebook Kurt Schork was carrying when he set out to report on the bodies of United Nations peacekeepers killed near Freetown, Sierra Leone, on May 24, 2000. On its final page is a rough sketch of the road leading from Freetown to Lunsar, approximately 100 kilometers to the northeast. Schork was killed that day in an ambush by RUF rebels, along with his friend and Spanish cameraman for Associated Press TV, Miguel Gil Moreno, in a place called Rogberi Junction. Reuters cameraman Mark Chisholm was wounded in the attack, while photographer Yannis Behrakis managed to escape from the same vehicle after Schork was shot. (text by Sabina Ćosić)
