Random Notebooks

Since I didn’t want to choose a notebook for its story, or for the story of this notebook, the one from Rwanda was chosen at random. Unfortunately, it was illegible, even for me. Not because the paper had deteriorated, but because it was written to be used that same evening. Simple words to engrave a story, for a few hours.

The second notebook drawn at random is from a report during the siege of Osijek, in the fall and winter of 1991. Nothing special to say about it.

However, I did delve into this matter of writing. It amused me to see how much my writing changes – the grammar, but also the calligraphy – depending on the nature of the texts these notes will be used for. I took two examples of places, Bosnia and Rwanda, where I wrote daily reports, longer magazine articles, and books, using the same notebooks but very different pen scribbles.

From each notebook, I tore out a page, so three pages for Bosnia, three for Rwanda, to compare their notes.
