WARM EARTH LOOKS AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES OF WAR

One of the new initiatives introduced at WARM Festival 2026 was WARM Earth, a long-term project exploring the relationship between armed conflict and environmental destruction.

Moderated by Lejla Kusturica, the first public event was a panel discussion bringing together Volodymyr Kadygrob, Scott Peterson and other participants to discuss how wars reshape landscapes, pollute ecosystems and leave environmental consequences that often outlast the fighting itself.

Before the discussion, Scott Peterson presented a slideshow of photographs from decades of reporting around the world, offering a visual introduction to many of the themes that followed.

Later the same day, WARM opened SCARS, an exhibition produced as part of Living the War, Volodymyr Kadygrob’s long-term project documenting the environmental impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Together, the panel and the exhibition marked the beginning of WARM Earth and the conversations the initiative hopes to continue in the years ahead.
