Robert Dannin

Anthropologist, Journalist, Author

I am a professor of linguistics and anthropology with degrees from Boston University, State University of New York & L’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. I taught at Brown University, New York University, and Suffolk University. Currently I am Trustee for Academic Affairs at Mount Ida College in Massachusetts; Vice-President & CFO of the Ddora Foundation in New York; and member of the Advisory Committee to the Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund. My editorial work in photojournalism was at Sipa Press (1978-80), Sygma (1981-85), and Magnum (1985-90). Publications include Black Pilgrimage to Islam (Oxford University Press 2002) and Arms Against Fury: Magnum Photographers in Afghanistan (Powerhouse 2002). I was the 2009 inaugural fellow at the Norman Mailer Writer’s Colony. I am now writing a non-fiction book that concerns the financing of World War Zero, otherwise know as the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05).
